Focused on the implementation of ethnical instruments, orchestral elements such as soundscapes and various samples, this one-off project is a fusion between progressive art ambitions, heavy blues, orchestral arrangements and world music – open minded in every direction. After I’ve written four songs for an upcoming EP, the recording sessions became more intensive and creative during the following autumn and winter. Initially, the original plan was to produce a double album with 24 songs. But in January 2012 – after more than 20 demo tracks were finished – I’ve realised that this record would be the best opportunity to close a circle. So I decided to not put put a “Frank Baker solo album” tag on it but found a new project with musicians I knew from the good old days. The result was a record with 14 tracks in total, a dozen of different people who contribute their spirit, interesting sound fusions, (partly) complex arrangements and a very unique sequence. It took almost two years of songwriting and one year of concepting, recording and arranging to get this carefully considered concept done. The name ‘Meadowy Temple’ was inspired by Shigeru Miyamoto’s masterpiece ‘The Ocarina of Time’ while the album title ‘The Residence’ is a play on a two-week stay in the deepest woods of western Germany in September 2011. The Residence is the first (and to date the last) album by Meadowy Temple.
